Do you want to make the most of each day in the hospital? You love Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, as well as clinical problem solving and wish there was more in-depth bedside teaching available? Do you wish to learn from excellent overseas professors and improve your medical English?

We, the Berlin group of IPOKRaTES Students, are delighted to present to you the bedside teaching seminar you always wanted. Our guest professors from the United States will take you on a clinical journey through the intriguing realms of Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, up to the point where “Internal Medicine meets Psychiatry” – the motto of our seminar.

Dr Christopher S. Peckins. MD (Dept. of Internal Medicine, Harvard Medical School, USA) and Dr Daniel P. Asnes, MD (Dept. of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, USA, ret.) will give highly motivated students a dedicated one-week Internal Medicine teaching session in Berlin.

The seminar will take place fully in-person at Charité-Universitätsmedizin, Campus Mitte in central Berlin from 12 August until 16 August 2024. You can expect patient examinations, case presentations, and lectures from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. In addition, you will have the chance to get to know the guest professors at different social events in the evenings.

Admitted students will also be given an opportunity to engage in an online Journal Club with our guest professors in the weeks leading up to the seminar. The Journal Club is an optional addition to the in-person seminar and will take place in July.

Requirements:

  • Proof of enrollment in an accredited medical school; students from across European faculties are encouraged to apply, although a fixed number of spots are reserved for Charité students
  • Fluency in English and German, including solid knowledge of medical terminology, as the seminar will be held in English while patient examinations require adequate German
  • Solid foundation in internal medicine (successful applicants are usually at least in their 3rd year/5th semester of medical school)
